Paintings

I have always been attracted to the use of raw materials.

..I work on utilitarian panels that surface our ordinary environments and my artworks are representing my journey and adventure.

These images aim to push the boundaries of representative figures, attempting to blur the lines between figurative and abstract language. The focus is to further stimulate the creativity within.                                                                                    Using lithographic ink on melamine panel, together with a repetitious process of adding and scraping back, using only a printmaking roller, kitchen papers and scraping tools, has allowed me to blur the boundaries between painting and drawing.

Brughiere (wetlands) - I remember the cold, foggy winter mornings over the few moors nearby where I used to live.                                                      The horizon was barely visible and the reflection of a pale grey-clouded sky mirrored into the small stream waters crossing the land.

Improvisations

Artsite Gallery online exhibition 2020

The art of improvisation has always been a dominating element in my musical life as composer/musician, as well as in my artistic practice.

Even when the architectural structure is well established, improvisation still plays a fundamental role within the composition, aimed at creating interest and diversifying the project. It keeps the practice fluid and open giving it a sense of freshness.

The artworks are the result of very quick improvised and spontaneous gestural applications,   guided by a counterpoint of colours, texture, light and shapes.

The process varies from watercolour techniques, to drawing, to painting… together with a constant and repetitive process of adding and taking away.

Interpretation, re-interpretation and transformation, from one image to another is constructed and multiple meanings arise. Nothing stays the same or is static; new elements are constantly added.

The final work is a reflection of what my eyes may have seen a day, a month or years earlier.
